Helpful Tips

HELPFUL TIPS

  • Get Rid Of Ants:  Put small piles of cornmeal or instant grits where you see ants.  They will eat it, take it home and can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have to worry about pets or small children being harmed.

  • Reheat Pizza:  Heat up leftover pizza in a non-stick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to medium-low and heat until warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No more soggy micro pizza. I saw this on a cooking channel and it really works.

  • Broken Glass:  Use a dry cotton ball to pick up little broken glass pieces of glass, the fibers catch even the ones you can't see.

  • Foggy Windshield:  Hate  foggy windshields?  Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub the eraser on the glass.  It works better than a cloth.

  • Measuring Cups:  Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill it with hot water. Dump out the hot water but don't dry the cup.  Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

  • Bachelor's Easy Deviled Eggs:  Put cooked egg yokes in a zip lock bag.  Seal and mash until they are all broken up.  Add remainder of ingredients (mayo, salt, pepper, mustard), reseal, keep mashing it up, mixing thoroughly.  Cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze the mixture into your egg.  Just throw the bag away when done.  Easy clean up.

  •  Expanding Frosting:  When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes.  You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount.  You also eat less sugar/calories per serving.

  • Reheating Refrigerated Bread:  To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water.  The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

  • Newspaper Weeds Away:  Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients into your soil.  Put wet newspapers in layers around the plants, overlapping as you go.  Cover with mulch and forget about weeds.  Weeds will get through some gardening plastic, they will not get through wet newspapers.

  • Safety:  If you purchase a new bike for your child, place their picture inside the handle bar before placing the grips on.  If the bike is stolen and later recovered, remove the grip and there is your proof of who owns the bike.  This will work on other stuff also.

  • Flexible Vacuum:  To get something out of a heat register, or from under the fridge, or other hard to reach places, add an empty paper towel roll or a gift wrap roll to your vacuum stick.  It can be bent or flattened to get into narrow openings.

  • No More Mosquitoes:  Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep mosquitoes away.

  • Take Baby Powder To The Beach:  Why?  Keep a small bottle of baby powder in your beach bag. When you're ready to leave the beach, sprinkle yourself and your children with the powder and the sand will slide right off your skin.

  • Easier Thank You's:  When you throw a bridal or baby shower, buy a pack of thank you cards for the guest of honor.  During the party, pass out the envelopes only and have everyone put their name and address on one.  When the new bride or mom sends the Thank you cards, they are all already addressed.

  • Conditioner:  Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs.  It's a lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth.  It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.

  • Good-Bye Fruit Flies:  To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid and mix well.  You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever.

  • Flea Patrol: They say that if you have a dog, you will eventually get fleas in your carpet. Here are a couple of tips to get rid of them without the expense or the smell of chemicals.  Sprinkle salt on your carpet and then vacuum in the morning. This kills them. Also, if infested, fill a white pie plate or dish with water, add a drop or two of dishwashing soap, and place it under a nightlight. The fleas are attracted to the warmth of the light, jump at it, and fall into the water. They can't swim!

  • Bee Stings: They say taping a copper penny over the sting for 15 minutes does the trick!

  • No More Odor: The carbon in newspaper ink absorbs odors. Stuffing sports cleats or tennis shoes with dry newspaper will absorb the odor and dry out the shoes virtually overnight.

  •  Best Way to Clean Silver: Line a bowl with foil (shiny side up) and add baking soda and boiling water. Place your silver into the bowl and leave it
there for 1/2 hour. Rinse off the soda..

  •  Increase Razor Life: You can make razor blades last for months by either putting them in alcohol or drying them with a hair dryer for a few seconds after you use them. It is the water rusting the blade that dulls them very quickly.

  • Natural Cold Cure:  When you get a cold, instead of using over-the-counter
medicines, use apple cider vinegar. Fill a shot glass with it,
    and then gargle with it.
